Salt is used ritualistically as a cleanser of places, bodies, and illness. Wahine Pa`akai is female salt (sea salt with red clay added). Kane Pa`akai is male salt (white) It is also added to many poultices to help draw out the plants chemicals and add to the anti-bacterial effect. Salt can be added to water to be used as a gargle for cold sores and sore throat. It is also taken as a laxative. Salt is also used to bath in to help draw out any toxin from the body.
